The third in a series of quarterly summits was held @ Gypsy and the Hooch, 817 Queen Street West. Must plug them as Tuesday nights are quietly the 'vibenest groove' in the big city, with Bear and the Shuggabunch running things.

'House Speaker' Julian King

The 'house speaker', one Julian King brought more information to continue the growth of Canadian Reggae. Canadian Reggae World is accepting any GOOD Canadian reggae music as he is getting requests from companies who need reggae music for commercials, TV and movie soundtracks. This can and will be a major source of revenue and exposure for the artists as well as the industry if the music continues to be chosen for high profile sitcoms, blockbuster movies etc.

All artists, if you wish to be considered, send your ORIGINAL music!

No cover music please!

Perhaps the most exciting news of the Summit was the introduction of a Canadian Reggae Chart. FINALLY! Leo Cripps out in Calgary who hosts a reggae show called Caribbean Linkup has been a major supporter of Canadian Reggae talent and is well known to many of the performing artists. On his July charts, there are notables such as past Juno Nominee Belinda, Leroy Brown (Juno Nominee) King Ujah sporting two tracks in the top ten, Miss Sonia Collymore (Reggae Award and Juno Award 2003 winner). All artists based here in T-Dot, yet Leo supports their hard work by setting up a charting system.

Bless to Leo for having the foresight in putting a chart together and helping to put Canadian Reggae to and area of respectability to the worldwide audience. We hope to encourage all reggae radio personalities across Canada to acknowledge these charts and to add to the vibe.

Added to this great news is the support given to the charts by Lionel Gayle of the Jamaica Gleaner / Star who has agreed to post the Canadian Reggae Charts in the paper.
