Kay Morris is a singer/song writer, producer, fashion designer, and a world changer. She is Canada’s Queen of reggae gospel and also the president of the Kay Morris Foundation, a non-profit NGO based in Ghana, W. Africa and Canada.  A native of Jamaica, Kay was raised by two Pentecostal Minister parents, and, at an early age was exposed to two guiding principles:  spiritual faith and the power of message of music.  It came as little surprise that Kay began her singing career at the tender age of four!  She later migrated to Canada where she resides with her husband and four children, and has launched a spectacular Reggae Gospel Award Winning career. 

 

In 1996, Kay Morris & The Jewels’ released their debut album - “Live Again”, which was released on Kay’s independent record label, Jewels Records and included songs that were Kay’s original compositions.  She and the group received prestigious reviews, which led to a tour of Jamaica, and performances to an audience of 6,000 people at Jamaica’s Independence Gospel Celebration, held in Mandeville and Spanish Town.  During that performance, Kay surprised the Caymanas Boys Home  with a cheque for $1000CDN along with 5 barrels of non-perishable food, clothing, and educational materials. They later appeared on the popular radio program “Echoes in the night” on LOVE 101.5 FM in a “live” interview with Markland Edwards.  

 

Building on Kay the group’s growing popularity, Kay was awarded the 1996 Canadian Reggae Music Award in the “Top Female New Comercategory.  The group then performed on City TV popular morning show, “Breakfast Television”. 

 

In the Summer of 1997, Kay and the group toured Winnipeg, Manitoba where Kay presented the Flood Relief Centre with 9 barrels of non-perishable food items and clothing for the victims of the Red River Flood.  While in Manitoba, they appeared & performed on the TV program “It’s A New Day”, which aired on Vision TV.

In January 1999, Kay Morris & The Jewels released their follow-up CD entitled “ARMAGEDDON”.  Despite its apocalyptic title, the band’s new album was fueled with Kay’s positive spirit.  Kay exclusively wrote eight out of the nine tracks, and received many great reviews overseas and locally.  The album received world wide recognition, from radio broadcasters in the US, UK, Caribbean, Africa and India.  The hit single “PRAY A PRAYER FOR ME”, was also released on a compilation album in India.

Kay’s most current release, Unite, has created a storm in the Gospel world.  She has performed at various churches, festivals, and concert venues in Jamaica, the U.S.A., Africa, South America, The U.K., Bahamas, & Barbados, and Canada (including the Ottawa Blues Festival, Toronto Urban Music Festival-CNE Band Shell) and have opened for renowned artists such as: Kirk Franklin, Hesekiah Walker, James Hall, Fred Hammond, Jessie Dixon, Papa San, & Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph at the Miss Black Canada World Pageant in Toronto. She performed at the Bobby Jones 9th Bi-Annual International Gospel Record Label Executives and Artist Retreat held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada which was aired on The WORD television network.

Kay Morris’ music, mission and vision is proof that her message of global spirituality is embraced by all, and has taken root in the hearts and minds of many around the world. Take a quick glimpse of some of Kay’s spectacular achievements highlighted below:

March 2001 & March 2002 Kay Morris won the Canadian Reggae Music Award  back-to-back in the Top Female Reggae Gospel Artist category.

 

October 2003 - Kay Morris won the MAJA Gospel Music Awards in the Best Reggae/Soca Recording category.  Song “Daddy” (also featured on the Unite CD) was submitted as a single and was among the Top (12) finalist in the Canada National Gospel Song Competition. In the same year she again won the Canadian Reggae Music Award in the Top Female Reggae Gospel Artist category, she also performed at the awards show.

November 2003 - the Kay Morris Foundation was launched in Ghana and Canada, catering to orphans, people living with HIV/AIDS and malaria.

 

February 2004 - CD review of Kay’s 3rd release - UNITE was reviewed in The Toronto Star by Geoff Chapman.

 

April 2004 – Toured Africa; including Ghana and Nigeria.  Donated medicine and medical supplies to HIV/AIDS patients at the Korle Bu Hospital HIV/AIDS Fever’s Unit, the Ghana AIDS Commission, the UNHCR Buduburam Refugee Camp, and the St. Gregory’s Catholic Clinic to over 42,000 refugees, as well as giving spirit moving performances.

 

May 2004 – Toured in England, performing in a number of venues in London, Manchester and Birmingham.

 

July 2004 - Marlin Awards nominee in the “Reggae/Soca Recording of the Year” category, Kay also performed at the Marlin Awards Gospel Fest & Awards Show held at the Wyndam Resort Hotel in Nassau, Bahamas July, 2004. 

 

November 2004 Kay was the Maja Gospel Awards (double) winner in the categories of:  Album of the Year” & “Best Reggae/Soca Album”.

 

In November 2004, Kay signed a Master & Synchronization License with Associate Entertainment featuring her in the film sound track Sleeping Dogs Lie. She used royalties from that agreement to start the Kay Morris Apparel line of African clothing which helps fund the KMF outreach projects with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

April 2005 – Kay went on another medical mission to Ghana W. Africa and donated medicine to Ghana AIDS Commission and the UNHCR Refugee Camp. She also visited the Human Service Trust Orphanage where she made a presentation to the orphanage.

 

August 2005 – Toured Florida, USA performing in concert venues and in churches.

October 2005 – Performed at the Planet Africa Television awards gala show

November 2005 – Performed at the Ghana Canada Expo.
