Reggae influences the world and is influenced by the world

For some like me, reggae is life

It is everyday life and I am grateful for that path

RasTafari guides, rules and reigns, in thoughts, creativity and opinions voiced and written

Raspect to all of the conscious souls who take the time to read and peruse this offering to the world

Orange Shirt Day

First on the agenda, Sunday September 30th, is Orange Shirt Day

Hundreds of thousands of children and millions of lives of Native humans were raped, murdered and destroyed and the rape and murders continue today in Canada by white racist sub-humans in the decision making within the Canadian government

That is an undeniable truth

The Indian Act created Residential Schools where Native humans {babies and children} were ripped away from their parents and abused within this racist system

Wearing an Orange Shirt is a show of love and solidarity to these abused humans and hopefully create greater awareness so that justice can be brought for these many Native souls
Michael St. George ~ Feel Reggae

The Feel Reggae energy blossoms as we roll along

Last week we had David Kingston, who pioneered a reggae resurgence in 1982 with his show, “Reggae Showcase” which ended in 1992, bringing that conscious, rootical reggae music to the masses.  Kingston was loved and rated by many of us fans and grateful that he took on the service of “reggae”

Feel Reggae runs from 4:00pm – 6:00pm.  David came to spin at 3:00 and then after 6:00pm, dropping GEMS in the ears of the fans.  David will be coming from time to time, beating tunes for those who like to listen

Klive Walker made another appearance.  Author of "Dubwise" in 2005, Klive is one of the world's foremost reggae historians and generously shares his knowledge and time with the community

Michael St. George

Poet, singer, songwriter

Michael spoke of his journeys here in Canada as well as in the UK, Jamaica and parts of Africa

One of Toronto / Canada’s most celebrated and accomplished poets, Michael gave an appreciative audience great performances and patiently hosted a Q & A making all in the room feel welcomed as well as informed

The performances were pretty awe inspiring and I am still answering calls about Michael as well as the performances each day since the event

The next Feel Reggae event, on the 27th October will be hosted by none other than Jason Wilson a Jackie Mittoo protege
Kabaka Pyramid

I met Kabaka Pyramid a couple of years ago at Sankofa Restaurant, owned by African Star

Representing CRW I was there as “media” yet when I got there, he looked like a man who had answered too many questions already, so I let him chill

After another round of questioning, he was walking past where I stood, then he stopped in the middle of the room, then we approached each other.  No cameras, no lights, no pen and paper, just two idrinsof this reggae journey

I did want to speak with him.  I went to the event because it was him {I don’t go to much things}

I wanted to tell him that I was impressed with the consciousness he and his peers, Chronixx, Jessie Royal, Iba Mahr, Jah 9, Protege, Damian & Stephen Marley and other young RasTafari generation were bringing “it” the way it was supposed to be

Consciousness

Spirituality

Militancy

Truth

I recommend his album Kontraband to the youth seeking a path as well as intelligent commentary within the art
Kirk Diamond

2018 Juno Award winner, Kirk Diamond

An artist that I have had the pleasure of reasoning with one on one

I think the first thing I told him that he was gifted

I like his spiritual energy... He actually tries to be nice to people yet as a younger person, in this time, with the levels of cynicism, it remains a challenge that he is working through

RasTafari touches him so I hear that in his music... makes me a “Greater” fan

Big chune!

When I say Canada has some gems, this is truly one of them, in my humble opinion

Feel Reggae ~ Michael St. George

Poet, singer, songwriter

Michael comes to shed light on his career, his connection to reggae and dub, dub poetry and reggae influences, this Saturday, 22nd September, 2018, 4:00pm - 6:00pm

Harry Belafonte

Was one of the great ones

He learned to assimilate within the even more overtly racist 60s and 70s bringing Jamaican folk music to the colonial worlds of America as well as Europe

Some said he was a Wolmarian {explains a lot...lol}

Matilda, Banana Boat Song{Day O}, Shake Shake, Shake Senora, Jamaica Farewell are some of my favorite songs that he did

I believe that it was because of Belafonte, Miriam Makeba was brought to the world.  He was a generous man with bringing her to the planet’s ears and spirits.  She was LOVELY

A freedom fighter who was known to head many marches in the 1960s walking arm in arm with Dr. Martin Luther King

A movie star to many folks in the black community as well as globally.  The one that sticks out to me as a Jamaican youth was Buck & The Preacher {1972} with himself and Sidney Poitier

One of the most chilling speeches I have ever witnessed was Belafonte’s narrative, inducting Public Enemy into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  At over 90 years old, he is still bringing the fire

Artist Feature this week ~ Blessed

There are many names that may come up as Jamaican heroes that have captivated the country and the spirit of the people... with pride

I feel like Miss Lou deserves the highest of the highest honors that can ever be bestowed on any Jamaican and that spot I believe is Heroes Circle

Some mention Bob of course and even Harry Belafonte who I would have no problems inducting them as JA heroes also

This is I likkle push for Louise Bennett Coverley

So honored to share this energy with Toronto Reggae

Our goal as we seem to define it as we grow, is to showcase reggae to an audience that seeks some information and in so doing, relate reggae as we know it to be to an audience who wishes to receive it that way

We fulljoy the path and welcome conscious souls to partake of this energy

We do "reggae" every day

That is a blessing that we feel grateful for

I sometimes complain about Canada's lack of support for reggae yet here I am, doing reggae things, every day.  So maybe it takes the individual to stop complaining about the path and just walk it

Sometimes I'm a tad thick...  Took me a minute to have it penetrate

Reggae's path is about the positive unification of good souls

Welcome to this communication path

Musician Feature ~ Carl Harvey:

Carl Harvey has played with Toots Hibbert for over forty {40} years now.  Like his brother Rupert of MessenJah fame as well as Crack of Dawn, they are Jackie Mittoo protégés who learned to feel reggae right.  They learned t feel jazz right.  They learned music from a recognized world renowned musical genius in Jackie Mittoo

Touring the world for forty years is a level of experience and expertise we all could benefit from Carl’s experience{s}

Carl produced  and been a part of nuff great reggae music for years.  Here is one with Sly & Robbie, Jackie Mittoo, Lloyd Parks

Here’s the link

Drum and bass

When describing reggae music those two elements may get mentioned most as the things are the most prominent in the music to create that right reggae energy... vibez; and it is partially true, yet some like me, are attracted to "anthem" tunes that we all can sing along to

Considering the constant exploitative media sources, creatively distracting the sheeple daily, it is difficult to find some of those roots, RasTafari reggae tunes that helps to bolster your spirits and those around you

I found it from sistrin Tasha Tee in this tune "Fire In Me"

Feel Reggae with Mojah

Talented human

As well as generous

Ovastanding the message of Feel Reggae, Mojah brought the bag of tools.  He spoke of the early days with Truth & Rights.  Of his friendship with the great Garry Lowe and his stint with Big Sugar

Mojah spoke of the history of reggae and why he writes this music and what inspires the creative path to the song

Then he performed a tune

The camera died, so we had to record with a cell phone...  The visual is really poor becasue of it, yet the audio is very intact (audibly low but clear) and his message is clear

I do hope that you take the time to check out the performance... It sounds good
