“I Heart Reggae” 2014, Kaisha Lee’s CD release was impressive news within the reggae community in Canada. Not that women can’t figure it out or that they have the ambition to have their own night or do the same things that all promoters do day after day, it is that, for me, within this reggae genre that is predominantly a masculine driven industry, it was a blessing to see these women boldly stepping out, working together and creating a showcase of ‘gifts’. All talented, all giving all supportive and a night of back to back to back hits.
The ‘music industry’ seems to have no place for gifted originality. It rarely has, especially when we speak of ‘pop’ music. No real infrastructure for pairing gifted artists with a vibrant fan base. Against those odds Kaisha released this album. A need to pen thought, hum the melody, create the structure, chorus and hook for each song. HUNDREDS of hours of studio time, how much money spent, how many times you wanna quit, but know that you can’t / won’t because the music drives you. Kaisha Lee started and completed her project and got some powerful sisters to come along and elevate her successful CD launch.
Kaisha Lee, Jahsmin Daley, Auresia, Tonya P, Ammoye Evans, Dj Chocolate, Empress Start a Fyah, big up Lionesses for a really enjoyable show and I will do my best to inform even more folks of your works.
