Who makes a goalie, 6 second call at that level of football? Really? Then a shot on net with a defender, with her back to goal, defending her face gives away a penalty shot? Right!
The thing is, as an ex-player, parent, weekend warrior, we all play with as much sportsmanship and when the Olympic ideal is questioned by the world at large, the IOC and FIFA need to be held accountable for tainting the beautiful game. Two horseshit calls to allow the American team to play for the gold?
The same IOC that banned a bunch of badminton players for conduct unbecoming, gives a pass to the team that they wanted in the finals is how I feel about the situation. No disrespect to the American women who balled just as hard as their Canadian opponents but I bet a few on that team feel a tad guilty as well. I know that I would! I had a referee try to cheat for my team once and awarded us an undeserved penalty shot, so I stepped up and deliberately kicked the ball out for a goal kick (needless to say, some of my teammates still hate me today..lol..) The reality is, I did not wish to win in that manner as I have lost like that before with biased officiating.
Christine Sinclair is a true champion who, along with the Canadian ladies delivered a masterpiece performance on the biggest stage only to be blatantly robbed! FIFA and the IOC ought to be ashamed of themselves!
But then again, the head of the IOC in the last Olympic games, one Jacque Roget the world's biggest racist, complained about the way Usain Bolt celebrated in victory. Really? The world's greatest sprinter, and a truly humble man, has to listen to the ramblings of a racist, old white man! The head of the IOC? Olympic ideal my ass!
Christine scored a hatrick on the biggest stage against the world's best team and all we talk about is a useless official who, I am sure FIFA will have working more of their tournaments! Because they are a governing body does not make them into gods. They are as full of shit as any one else!
Well IOC, this isn't going away! I will keep this as fresh as possible so that you question yourselves since there is no one you pricks answer to!
To the Canadian ladies, you made me as proud to be Canadian as the Jamaican sprint team makes me as proud to be born Jamaican. You made me proud to have competed as an athlete at any point in my life and I / we are proud the have you go before us.
Thank you ladies.
